Jakarta, 26 January 2026 – Neo Terra announces that the South Barito Kapuas Project (VCS4782) has been assigned a BeZero Carbon ex ante Rating of A.pre with Very low project execution risk, as of January 2026. 

The South Barito Kapuas Project is located in the South Barito and Kapuas regencies of Central Kalimantan, Indonesia, and encompasses 39,835 hectares of peatland and dryland forest. Initiated in September 2022, the project is designed to prevent deforestation and ecosystem degradation through peatland rewetting, hydrological restoration, fire prevention, and sustainable livelihood programmes. 

The project is situated in a region that has experienced significant historical deforestation pressure. As part of its assessment, BeZero Carbon assigned the project an ‘aaa’ score for Additionality, reflecting the strength of the project’s rationale for delivering emissions avoidance beyond business-as-usual scenarios. 

The project company is PT Nusantara Raya Solusi, supported by its manager and financial backer Neo Terra. The project has been developed to support social and economic opportunities for more than 15,000 people across 10 villages surrounding the forest area. 

A BeZero Carbon ex ante Rating represents BeZero Carbon’s independent, point-in-time opinion on the likelihood that pre-issuance carbon credits achieve one tonne of CO₂e avoided or removed. Independent carbon ratings provide objective and comparable analysis to help buyers and investors better understand project-level risks and support transparency and integrity in carbon markets. 

The South Barito Kapuas Project is currently progressing through the final stages of authorisation with Verra and the Indonesian Government, pursuant to the memorandum of understanding between Verra and Indonesia.
